Blanc de Noir Vintage 2021
Description
The first blanc de noir from Nine One Six!
It seems a very long time ago that grapes were picked for this first Nine One Six sparkling blanc de noir. Harvesting by hand on the morning of 19th February 2019 is a clear memory of mild summer, optimistic blue skies, and excitement in the air for this new venture. Quite melancholy about it now - it's been an astonishing few years - so it is with full hearts that we present you with this delicious cheers.
Baked apple and cherry, with a hint of spice and a golden hue - tiny bubbles all in a glass - produced only from pinot noir, pressed lightly on skins, two years on lees, made in the traditional method.
provenance
Provenance is at the heart of every Nine One Six bottle; an unwavering commitment to ensuring the unique character of the vineyard and season is captured. Each wine begins at this single vineyard in the Yarra Valley, where original, thirty year old, MV6 Pinot Noir vines are planted in grey loam soils at the top of the Steels Creek Valley. Each vintage we take the harvested grapes to our neighbour where the winemaker tends to minimal intervention making. When the wine is ready, we collect it and store it here at the vineyard (and our home) in the dark and under temperature control. Then for each order, on demand, we hand-label and send, via wine courier direct to consumer.
Sustainability
Sustainability at Nine One Six begins in the vineyard. Soil health and canopy balance are essential; carefully maintained and hand tended. Irrigated from rain filled dam and billabong, and enriched through worm-farm fertigation when required. Solar power runs our coolroom and wine storage, reducing our footprint. Every element of Nine One Six packaging — from cork to carton — is fully recyclable, and waste is kept to a minimum. We're proud members of Wine Yarra Valley who are focused on sustainable growing and making of premium wine.
