2024
Forgo the fruit this year
Climate conditions precluded a bountiful harvest in 2024. We decided to forgo the fuit and let the vines rest.
2023
Cool summer and wet spring
Whilst a lower crop size and an early harvest, the quality of the handpicked grapes was very good. Again opting for no additions, we'll have to be patient to see this wine come to fruition, probably for release in late 2025.
2022
Sunny Bounty
Harvest on 26th February was very pleasant ahead of the heatwave which followed. We handpicked separately for pinot noir and blanc de noir. We're truly appreciating the diversity in this small vineyard, it's wonderful.
Vintage 2021
Rich balanced intensity in this wine. A cold start to the growing season, then a mild summer.
Released November 2024 *now sold out*
Vintage 2020
A year of pressure
Yes it was! Rather than micro managing the vineyard against disease pressure we decided to lock down ourselves and the grapes, no Nine One Six produced in 2020.
Vintage 2019
"... heady with florals, a touch of star anise, fennel and blood orange"
Low rainfall and mild temperatures from budburst through to ripening and then a hot and hurry up end to the vintage with a compressed harvest window across the Yarra Valley. Fine tannins with a long mineral finish. Released October 2021
*last bottles available*
Vintage 2018
"...layered complexity across the spice-infused bunch"
Sporadic rain and shine during spring gave way to a long, dry summer and ideal ripening period. Hand picked south and west separate whole bunch, natural ferments. Footstomped. Released August 2020 *last bottles available*
Vintage 2017
"Everything a pinot should be..."
Luscious spring rain, mild flowering conditions, gentle ripening: an outstanding vintage. "... buoyant with supple tannins and fresh acidity" 95 points Halliday. Released December 2019 *sold out*
Vintage 2016
"Captivating... you must try this"
Early budburst, perfect fruit-set, then a dry and warm ripening to harvest. "...it offers some kind of journey and impresses as some kind of wonderful" 96 points Halliday. Released August 2018 *sold out*
Vintage 2015
"Natural wine at its greatest"
“Estate-grown MV6, hand-picked, whole bunches
and whole berries cold soaked and open-
fermented, 3 weeks post-ferment maceration for
the whole berry parcels, matured for 16 months
in used French oak, not fined or filtered. Clear,
bright crimson-purple; despite its lengthy
elevage, it is as fresh and crisp as a spring day;
its cherry/berry fruit flavours positively sing in the
mouth. Natural wine at its greatest. 95 points Halliday. Released August 2017 *sold out*
Vintage 2014
Conditions...
An early frost gazumped the vineyard and we decided to forgo a harvest to let the vines recover.
Vintage 2013
Benchmark pinot noir
"Strong, bright crimson-purple hue; a
very expressive bouquet with a deep
pinot and allspice aroma is replayed
on the full, but well balanced palate,
plum, spice and positive oak all
contributing" 94 points Halliday. Released December 2016 *sold out*
Vintage 2012
The first Nine One Six vintage!
“Striking, deep, vivid purple-
crimson; the perfumed red berry
bouquet heralds a harmonious,
supple palate with both depth and
length to the black and red cherry
fruit; the oak is not obtrusive, tannins
present but not obvious.” 95 points Halliday. Released December 2016 *sold out*
